NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) – An alleged armed carjacking suspect is in custody Tuesday after leading police on a high-speed chase that began in Ventura and ended in a crash in North Hollywood.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division began chasing the suspect just after 9 p.m. Monday after he allegedly stole a white pickup, which was towing a coffee vendor’s trailer, in Ventura, KTLA 5 reported.
The suspect drove on surface streets in Valley Village and made his way to North Hollywood, where he attempted to make a turn at Tujunga Avenue from Chandler Boulevard, lost control of the truck and overturned the trailer, according to broadcast reports.
The suspect abandoned the truck and ran away from the scene with officers in pursuit and at one point jumped on top of a large storage box before running away from police.
Officers established a perimeter near Chandler Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue and KCAL 9 reported the man was taken into custody after officers found him hiding inside a portable restroom round 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Fox 11 reported an employee of the coffee vendor was inside the trailer when it was stolen and in an effort to escape, jumped out before the suspect drove into North Hollywood. The employee was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.
