Guthrie Makes Plea After Note Claimed Mother Died

Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s ‘Today’ show, made an emotional plea on Tuesday (June 23) after a ransom note claimed her mother, Nancy Guthrie, died following her abduction. The 84-year-old was last seen on January 31 near her home in Tucson, Arizona. Reports surfaced Monday indicating that one of two notes sent to a Tucson TV station stated Nancy died shortly after being taken on February 1 and was buried in nature.

The first note demanded millions in bitcoin for Nancy’s release, while the second expressed regret over her death. Both notes were deemed potentially credible by police. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI are investigating the case. Savannah, visibly emotional, urged anyone with information to come forward, stating, “Somebody knows something. We are in agony.”

The family is offering a $1 million reward for Nancy’s safe return. Authorities have released images of a masked individual seen tampering with her home’s security camera. Despite months of investigation, no arrests have been made. The FBI also offers a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s location or the arrest of those involved.

Savannah and her siblings released a video addressing the kidnappers, acknowledging the notes and pleading for their mother’s return. Retired FBI agent John Iannarelli expressed skepticism about the notes’ authenticity, noting the unusual remorse shown by the alleged kidnappers.

For now, the Guthrie family continues to hope for a resolution, as authorities pursue leads in this ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
