Man Suspected of Animal Cruelty Taken Into Custody

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A 27-year-old man suspected of kicking a dog and throwing it down a staircase in East Hollywood was taken into custody, police said Monday.

Patrol officers from the Rampart Community Police Station responded to the 4000 block of Oakwood Avenue, near Vermont Avenue and Beverly Boulevard, around 3:25 p.m. Sunday regarding information posted on social media by a concerned witness suggesting animal cruelty, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment, where veterinarians discovered that the 7-month-old had broken one of her hind legs from the fall and was poorly nourished.

Joeboury Coleman of Los Angeles was arrested and booked on suspicion of animal cruelty and was being held without bail, police said.

Anyone with additional information regarding the alleged abuse was urged to call LAPD Rampart Burglary Theft detectives at 213-484-3490. Calls during non-business hours or weekends should be directed to 877-527-3247. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
