Jackie and Shadow, the famous bald eagles residing near Big Bear Lake, California, are expecting two hatchlings as two of three eggs in their nest show signs of hatching. The Friends of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit organization that oversees the eagle cam, confirmed the sighting of pips on two eggs. A pip is a small crack made by the chick inside the egg, indicating it is ready to emerge.
The first egg showed signs of hatching on Sunday, and a second pip was observed shortly thereafter. According to experts, hatching can take between one and three days after a pip appears, though it is not always guaranteed. The eagle cam, maintained by Friends of Big Bear Valley, allows thousands of viewers to watch the life of Jackie and Shadow unfold online.
In recent years, Jackie and Shadow have successfully hatched eaglets, including one named Spirit in 2022. The eagles have been nesting in the area since 2013, and the surrounding habitat is protected by a forest closure order from December to maintain a disturbance-free environment for the eagles.
The eagle cam was installed in 2015 and has been a popular attraction for wildlife enthusiasts. Jackie and Shadow’s journey continues to captivate viewers as they eagerly await the hatching of the new eaglets.
