There are plenty of unpleasant aspects to winter, but one of the worst is getting into a freezing cold car that takes forever to get warm. Well it turns out, there’s a way to fix that. To heat up a car, most people just crank up the temperature and blast the fan, and while that will eventually get things hot, if you want to do it much faster, you have to also push two lesser-known buttons.
Driving expert Capturing Cars shared the tip on TikTok, explaining how when you get in the car, after putting the fan on high and turning up the temperature, you should also hit the recirculation button. That will close off the vents to the outside and recirculate the air in the car. According to the video, “What that means is that each circulation of the air that’s in your car, it gets warmer on each pass, heating up quicker.” Essentially, rather than heating up cold air from outside, you are heating up the already-warmed air inside the vehicle.
In addition, you’ll want to press another button, one that might surprise you – the A/C button. The expert explained, “A lot of people think air conditioning is just for hot weather, it’s not, it literally does what it says on [it]. It conditions the air, whatever the temperature may be.”
Some commenters expressed concern that closing the outside vents with the recirculation button on would cause the windows to fog up, but as others pointed out, the A/C button also works as a dehumidifier too, preventing the fogging.
