A Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint during President Joe Biden’s trip to California over the weekend. The Tustin Police Department said that they received a 911 call about the robbery around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 15).
The agent told them that the suspect took his bag at gunpoint and fled in a silver Infiniti FX35. The agent, who was not on duty at the time, said that he discharged his service weapon but was unsure whether or not he struck the suspected robber.
The police said that the agent’s bag was recovered nearby.
“Officers have located some of the victim’s belongings in the area, and the incident is still being investigated. There is no known threat to the public,” the department said in a press release.
The Secret Service has not commented on the incident.
The agent was not identified, and it is unclear if he was in California protecting Biden or if he was a member of former President Barack Obama’s detail.
Obama and Biden were in California for a star-studded fundraiser to raise money for Biden’s presidential campaign.
