Park Rangers Trying To Identify Topless Trespassers At National Park

The National Park Service is trying to identify three hikers seen trespassing on a closed trail at Acadia National Park in Maine. Park officials said that the Precipice Trail, which runs along the east face of Champlain Mountain, is closed for several months out of the year to protect the nesting grounds of the federally protected Peregrine Falcons.

“Research has shown that nesting peregrine falcons are particularly vulnerable to human activities, which can disturb the adults and make them less attentive to the eggs or chicks. Human activities near a nesting area can lead to temporary or permanent abandonment of the nest by the adults leaving chicks susceptible to hypothermia, starvation, and predation,” the National Park Service explained in a news release.

Authorities said the closure is clearly marked at the trailhead and noted that it is “widely publicized” online.

The news release also included several photos of the three individuals. They have asked anybody who may know the three hikers to contact them by going to go.nps.gov/SubmitATip or calling 888-653-0009 to leave an anonymous tip.
