New Poll Reveals Trump’s Approval Rating Before First Address To Congress

President Donald Trump is reported to have a 51% approval rating ahead of his first formal address to Congress on Tuesday (March 4), according to a CBS News/YouGov survey conducted between February 26 and 28.

The poll, which included a sample of 2,311 American adults nationwide, said a slim majority approved “the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president” though a majority 38% said they “strongly disapprove” when broken down to four specific options. Another 31% said they “strongly approve” of Trump’s job through his first weeks in office, while 20% said they “somewhat approve” and 11% responded with “somewhat disapprove.”

A majority 54% also approved of Trump’s policies on immigration, as well as 51% favoring his handling of the economy, however, 54% disapproved of his response to rising inflation rates. The feeling of how respondents felt things were going in America today was also a mixed bag with 11% responding “very well,” 33% responding “somewhat well,” 26% saying “somewhat badly” and 30% responding “very badly.”

Additionally, a vast majority of 81% of respondents said they believed Trump was making “major changes to how the U.S. government works with 35% saying they believed the changes were “better,” 40% saying they were “worse” and 25% saying it was “too soon to say.”

Trump is scheduled to address Congress for the first time during his second non-consecutive presidential term Tuesday evening.
