New Evidence in Pasadena Police Shooting Spurs Investigation

New evidence has emerged in the case of a Pasadena police officer shooting incident, prompting a fresh investigation and placing several officers on administrative leave.

The incident occurred on September 7, 2025, when officers were allegedly engaged in “horseplay” with loaded firearms before their shifts.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the officer who fired his weapon was previously “separated from the city.” However, after a witness came forward with new information on Sunday, Police Chief Gene Harris announced an additional investigation. Harris did not specify the number of officers placed on leave or the nature of the new evidence but emphasized the seriousness of the matter.

The incident was captured on a police cruiser dashcam, which was released last week after a delay. The video shows an officer drawing and pointing a weapon at another officer through the windshield of a vehicle. The officer then reholsters the weapon before the shooting occurs. The NBC Los Angeles report states that the officer in the driver’s seat of the patrol car drew his department-issued handgun and discharged it, hitting another officer in the shoulder. The injured officer has since recovered.

Chief Harris stated that the decision to place officers on leave reflects the department’s commitment to addressing such conduct seriously. He assured the public that investigations would be thorough and conducted without haste, promising transparency within the bounds of California law.

The Redlands Daily Facts noted that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is also reviewing the case to determine if the behavior was criminal. Harris identified the shooting officer as Roy Alatorre, who has not commented on the incident.

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo condemned the behavior as “unprofessional” and supported the police chief’s decisions regarding the investigation and disciplinary actions.
