An Ohio mother was killed while trying to stop her SUV, with her six-year-old son sleeping inside, from being stolen. The Columbus Police Department said that 29-year-old Alexa Stakley was at a condominium complex on Thursday (July 11) to pick up her son from his babysitter.
After she loaded him into her Honda CR-V, Stakley went back to grab her son’s clothing when two men hopped into her car and started to drive away.
Stakely chased after her SUV, trying to tell the driver that her child was inside. As Stakely gave chase, she was struck by her vehicle. She was knocked down, and her head slammed into the ground.
The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled the area on foot.
Stakely was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead several hours later. Officials said that her son was unharmed.
“Alexa was just like an extremely outgoing, resilient person and a mother. And just her character was unmatched,” her brother Hayden Swartz told WCMH.
Authorities are searching for the suspects and have asked the public to come forward if they have any information about the case.
