Jackie & Shadow Stay Busy Feeding Eagle Triplets

Jackie and Shadow, a well-known bald eagle couple in Southern California, have welcomed their third eaglet. The chick hatched early Saturday morning, as confirmed by the Friends of Big Bear Valley, who manage the live webcam streaming the nest. The eaglet emerged from its shell after more than 40 hours of effort, following the initial crack spotted on Thursday. The eaglet was officially presented to the world during an early morning feeding at 6:13 a.m.

The couple’s nest, located in Big Bear Lake Forest, has been a focal point for eagle enthusiasts since 2016, when a webcam was installed to monitor the nest. This year’s hatchlings mark a significant event for Jackie and Shadow, who have experienced challenges in recent years, losing eggs in 2023 and 2024. The arrival of the three eaglets has been met with excitement, with one follower commenting that it seems like “Mother Nature is making up for the last few years of no eggs” on the Friends of Big Bear Valley’s Facebook page.

The eaglets, temporarily named Chick 1, Chick 2, and Chick 3, are expected to remain in the nest for several weeks, primarily eating, sleeping, and growing feathers. Wildlife biologist Peter Sharpe noted that the chicks will begin to fledge, or learn to fly, when they are around 10 to 12 weeks old. Until then, they will be under the watchful care of their parents, Jackie and Shadow, who have become internet favorites over the years. The Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam continues to capture the attention of thousands, offering a glimpse into the lives of these majestic birds.
