Hidden Cameras Found in SoCal Yards Amid Burglary Probes

Authorities in Southern California are urging residents to inspect their yards after hidden cameras were discovered during burglary investigations in the San Gabriel Valley.

Deputies responding to a burglary call on Tuesday in San Dimas found a concealed surveillance device in the bushes across from a residence on the 800 block of Via Gregorio. The device included a hidden camera, a portable hotspot, and an external battery pack, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

In a similar incident about a week earlier, a landscaper in the same neighborhood discovered another suspicious device hidden in hedges while trimming vegetation. This device was a cellphone connected to a power bank, wrapped in green camouflage tape with fake plants attached, as reported by the Sheriff’s Department. Authorities believe these devices are used by suspects to monitor when residents leave their homes, helping them determine the best times to commit burglaries.

The discovery of these hidden cameras has prompted the San Dimas community to rally together, with residents forming a neighborhood watch program to protect each other’s properties. Jeff Veldez, a local resident, noted that the cameras were strategically placed, saying, “The thing of it is, it was found by the maintenance crew. We didn’t personally find it as a homeowner, or any of the homeowners.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has provided several tips to help protect homes, including regularly inspecting properties, trimming trees and bushes to reduce hiding spots, using and monitoring home security cameras, and keeping outdoor areas well-lit at night. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious devices to local law enforcement immediately.

For more information, residents can contact the San Dimas Sheriff Station at (909) 450-2700. Additional details are available on the station’s Facebook page.
