Evacuations Ordered for Brush Fire in Lancaster

LANCASTER (CNS) – A brush fire broke out Monday in Lancaster, burning at least 40 acres and prompting evacuation orders amid temperatures in the 90s.

Fire crews responded at approximately 2:15 p.m. Monday to reports of flames scorching the area near North 90th Street West and West Avenue I, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A second alarm was requested at 2:32 p.m.

The fire department reported at 3:16 p.m. that evacuations has been ordered, but no further details were immediately provided.

The cause of the fire was not clear.

A smaller fire broke out a short time earlier in the area of West Avenue J, which burned about one-quarter acre of vegetation.

A short time earlier, a grass fire broke out near the Antelope Valley west of Lancaster Monday and quickly scorched around 100 acres, prompting a second-alarm response.

At about 11:30 a.m. Monday, a grass fire broke out in the area of West Avenue C and 190th Street West in the community of Fairmont, which is along state Route 138 west of Lancaster. That fire burned about 100 acres before forward progress was stopped.

The National Weather Service has said that elevated fire risk will be present in the area all week, with high temperatures, low humidity and occasional gusty winds.
