Baby Survived Two Days Alone In Ditch After Hurricane Beryl

A one-year-old child, referred to as a “miracle baby,” survived two days alone in a ditch near a Louisiana highway, a few miles from where his four-year-old brother’s body was discovered. The children’s mother, Aaliyah N. Jack, was arrested at a Mississippi train station, reportedly attempting to leave town.

The authorities were alerted on Monday (July 8) about a body found in the water behind the Vinton Welcome Center, a rest stop in Calcasieu Parish. The body was identified as a four-year-old child, but the cause of death has not been determined.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the four-year-old had last been seen with Jack and his one-year-old brother. An alert was issued to nearby law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for Jack, and an arrest warrant was issued for failure to report a missing child.

The one-year-old was found alive on Tuesday morning after a truck driver spotted the baby off Interstate 10.

“We looked at this 1-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive. Unbelievable,” said Sheriff Stitch Guillory.

The baby, who had a few insect bites but was otherwise in good spirits, was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and will be placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
