Airline Passenger Sues Over ‘Dangerously Cold’ Ice Cream Sandwich

A New Jersey woman, Karla Quinonez, has filed a lawsuit against JetBlue, alleging that she suffered “severe and permanent bodily injuries” after biting into a “dangerously cold” ice cream sandwich served on a flight from New York to Paris. According to the lawsuit, Quinonez cracked her upper left lateral incisor, a tooth immediately left of the left front tooth and required immediate medical treatment upon landing in Paris. The incident occurred on August 20, 2024.

Quinonez alleges that the airline served her a Nightingale brand strawberry shortcake ice cream bar that was frozen “at a temperature below what is reasonable or safe for consumption.” She also claims that the airline staff failed to warn her about the frozen state of the dessert. The lawsuit does not specify the amount of damages Quinonez is seeking.

This is not the first time JetBlue has faced a lawsuit over temperature-related incidents. In June 2024, another passenger sued the airline after allegedly suffering severe burns from “scalding hot” tea served during a period of turbulence.

JetBlue has not yet responded to requests for comment about the lawsuit.
