A human cannonball performer, Chachi “The Rocketman” Valencia, was injured during his act at the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival in Indio on Sunday. Valencia, known for being shot out of a cannon at speeds up to 55 miles per hour, fell out of a safety net during his performance.
The incident occurred about 15 minutes into his act, which began at 2:30 p.m. Emergency crews from Cal Fire/Riverside County were called to the scene around 2:44 p.m. and transported Valencia to a local hospital with minor, traumatic injuries. According to the Press-Enterprise, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies found Valencia being treated by medical personnel upon arrival.
Despite the fall, fair officials reported that Valencia is expected to make a full recovery and was released from the hospital later that evening.
