A Colombian man was arrested at Rafael Nunez International Airport in Cartagena for attempting to smuggle cocaine under a toupee. The 40-year-old suspect was preparing to board a flight to Amsterdam when police discovered the drugs. The cocaine, weighing over 220 grams, was hidden in the wig and valued at approximately $10,515.
Officials said that the man was identified through a scanner by the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the National Colombian Police. The police shared footage showing the man’s body scan and the subsequent discovery of the cocaine hidden in the hairpiece.
Gelver Yecid Pena Araque of the Metropolitan Police of Cartagena stated that the individual was profiled by experts, leading to the search that uncovered the drugs. The suspect is now facing charges related to manufacturing and carrying narcotic substances, as well as suspicion of trafficking.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug smuggling at airports. The suspect’s arrest is part of a broader initiative to disrupt criminal activities and prevent illegal substances from reaching international destinations.
