The Newport Beach Police Department is preparing for a potential “organized gathering” in the city this weekend, following the chaos that ensued over the Fourth of July weekend.
The department announced Saturday that they are aware of social media posts promoting the event and are actively investigating to identify those involved in organizing or promoting any unlawful activities.
To ensure public safety, additional officers will be deployed throughout Newport Beach. The police emphasized their commitment to protecting the community and responding swiftly to any criminal activity. According to a statement posted on the department’s Instagram account, “Anyone who organizes, promotes, or participates in criminal activity should expect immediate enforcement action.”
The nature and timing of the planned gathering remain unclear. However, the police are taking precautions due to the events of the July 4 weekend, which saw more than 400 arrests following a large, unruly gathering at Newport Pier. Most of those arrested were from out of state, with a significant number coming from Arizona and Nevada.
The police department has warned that juvenile offenses can carry serious consequences, and parents or guardians may be held legally and financially responsible for any damages or unlawful conduct committed by minors. The city is working with regional partners to address the situation and prevent a repeat of the July 4 chaos.
Newport Beach officials are determined to maintain order and safety, as they continue to monitor social media for any developments regarding the proposed gathering.
