AZUSA (CNS) – Firefighters continued efforts Tuesday to contain a brush fire in Azusa that burned 25 acres of vegetation, with no reported injuries or damage to any structure.
The fire was reported at approximately 7 p.m. Monday near Highway 39 and Mountain Laurel Way, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The AirAttack 51 aerial supervision plane used infrared technology to update the fire size from 11 acres to 25 acres.
“There is no current threat to structures,” Angeles National Forest officials said at about 10:40 p.m.
“Area residents can see fire on the right side (east) of the fire,” officials said. “This side of the fire is extremely steep and firefighters supported by Helitanker 55 will work overnight to battle the blaze.”
Fire officials said Highway 39 remained closed at Sierra Madre while firefighting equipment remained on the roadway.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The Los Angeles County Fire and U.S. Forest Service were managing the firefight under a unified command.
