Truck Collision on 101 Freeway in Tarzana Snarls Morning Traffic

TARZANA (CNS) – Two big rigs collided Tuesday on the Ventura (101) Freeway scattering large bricks all over northbound lanes through Tarzana and leaving only one lane passable.

The crash was reported at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday on the northbound Ventura Freeway just south of the Tampa Avenue off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The impact caused the 53-foot-long big rig with a flatbed trailer to overturn, as seen on news video from the scene. The semi with a trailer was damaged in the front.

An arriving officer reported that the driver was out of the overturned rig and appeared to have only minor injuries. He was seen on video with his head wrapped in bandages.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 4:27 a.m. shutting down all northbound lanes except the far-right just south of Tampa Avenue while arranging for two heavy duty tow trucks to collect the big rigs, including the one on its side.

A second lane was reopened around 6:30 a.m.

It was expected to take hours to pick up all of the cinder blocks and clear the roadway

Northbound traffic was backed up to Hayvenhurst Avenue with an hour- long delay getting through the busy corridor, according to SigAlert.com.
