Evacuation orders in Chino Hills were lifted late Wednesday after the Grand Fire, which began from a car fire, threatened nearby homes. The fire, located near Grand Avenue and Pleasant Hill Drive, initially prompted evacuation orders for Mill Stream Drive, Falling Star Lane, Valley View Lane, and Sweet Grass Lane. An evacuation center was set up at the Chino Hills Community Center on Peyton Drive.
The Chino Valley Fire District responded to the blaze just before 7 p.m. The fire quickly spread to 30 acres with a moderate rate of spread and the potential to reach 200 acres, according to NBC Los Angeles. Despite the threat, the fire was held at 30 acres with 0% containment, aided by cooler temperatures and humidity.
Approximately 250 personnel, including 20 engines, six hand crews, three helicopters, two dozers, and one water tender, were assigned to combat the blaze, as reported by Los Angeles Times. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was taken to a hospital.
Road closures were implemented, with Grand Avenue remaining closed overnight. However, all evacuation orders and warnings have since been lifted, according to ABC7.
The National Weather Service warned of elevated fire risks due to moderate to strong winds and low humidity expected over the weekend, which could complicate firefighting efforts.
