Grand Fire Prompts Evacuations in Chino Hills

A vegetation fire, known as the Grand Fire, erupted near Grand Avenue Park in Chino Hills on Wednesday around 7 p.m. The blaze quickly spread, leading to mandatory evacuation orders for residents on Mill Stream Drive, Falling Star Lane, Valley View Lane, and Sweet Grass Lane. An evacuation center has been established at the Chino Hills Community Center on Peyton Drive, where residents and their pets can seek shelter.

As of 8 p.m., the fire had consumed 30 acres and had the potential to expand to 200 acres, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Chino Valley Fire District, along with ground crews and water-dropping helicopters, is actively working to contain the fire. Road closures are in effect at Chino Hills Parkway and Falling Star Lane, as well as Chino Hills Parkway and Country Walk.

The Chino Valley Fire District has issued an evacuation warning for neighborhoods south of Grand Avenue Park, urging residents to be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice. The National Weather Service has warned of moderate to strong winds and low humidity, which could exacerbate the fire risk in the coming days.

Residents are advised to gather essential items, including medications, important documents, and pet supplies, and to evacuate promptly if necessary. The City of Chino Hills, Chino Valley Fire District, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are coordinating efforts to manage the situation.
