Multiple people are dead following a shooting Tuesday (February 10) at a home inside the Amberlea gated community in Sarasota, Florida, authorities confirmed.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a neighbor at 12:24 p.m. and arrived at the scene on Fallcrest Circle by 12:29 p.m., according to a police spokesperson. Officials confirmed no survivors were found at the residence.
“We do have multiple victims in the house, and our crime scene forensics team is in there now doing the preliminary investigations,” the spokesperson said during a press conference.
Matthew Binkley, Sarasota County Community Affairs Manager, stated that authorities believe this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public. The number of victims has not been specified, and none have been identified as officials work to notify next of kin.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, though police have not released details about how many weapons may have been involved. Investigators noted there were no signs of forced entry at the home.
The shooting prompted a heavy law enforcement response, with numerous deputies and patrol cars securing the area. Proctor Road was closed from McIntosh Road to Honore Avenue due to the police activity, and deputies established a staging area at Bee Ridge Presbyterian Church.
Multiple specialized units are working the scene, including Crime Scene, Forensics, Victim Advocates, Criminal Investigations, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and the Patrol Bureau. Investigators are gathering statements from nearby witnesses and examining potential surveillance footage, including doorbell cameras.
Neighbors described the community as relatively safe, noting that incidents of this nature are unusual for the gated neighborhood. The home had been the subject of two previous police calls, though officials said it did not appear to be a residence that routinely required police services.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities promising to release more information as it becomes available.
