Police arrested 17 people at a Garden Grove coffee shop that was allegedly operating as a “bikini café” with staff serving customers while partially undressed, authorities announced this week.
The Garden Grove Police Department conducted an investigation into DD Café, located on the 10500 block of McFadden Avenue, following complaints of illegal activity at the establishment. During the operation on February 5, officers found employees serving customers while wearing bikinis or in “various states of undress,” according to the Orange County Register.
“The operation violated municipal codes related to public nudity, business operations and alcohol regulations,” Garden Grove Police Sgt. Nick Jensen told reporters. Authorities also determined the business was not permitted to sell alcohol at that location, with alcohol-related offenses among the citations issued.
Among those arrested were the café’s owners, Jensen confirmed. Following the arrests, the building was red-tagged by city code enforcement officials, requiring the business to shut down until violations are corrected. Officials did not specify what building issues were discovered.
A Yelp page for DD Café, which described its offerings as “coffee & tea, juice bar and smoothies, adult entertainment,” indicated the business was permanently closed as of this month. User reviews referenced women giving lap dances and called the establishment a “girls cafe.”
Jensen noted that this was not the first time police have taken action against a bikini café in Garden Grove and said investigators believe similar businesses may be operating elsewhere in the city. Bikini cafés, which feature scantily clad staff as part of their marketing, have appeared in communities across the country and often spark complaints from nearby residents.
The café did not immediately respond to requests for comment from local media outlets.
