Several unknown suspects opened fire on guard stationed at Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland in a pair of drive-by shootings early Saturday (August 17) morning.
The San Antonio Police Department said that the first shooting occurred around 2:15 a.m. near the main gate of the Chapman Training Annex. According to WOAI, the guards told police they could hear the gunshots flying past them.
After the shooting, additional guards were stationed at the gate of the base.
A little over two hours later, a sedan stopped near the entrance of the base and opened fire. The guards on duty immediately returned fire as the suspects fled the scene.
Officials said that nobody was injured in the shootings. The shooting was considered an “off-base shooting incident,” and authorities do not believe the shooters were affiliated with the military.
“There was no active threat to the installation … and our security forces responded to mitigate the threat,” spokesperson Stefanie Antosh told Fox News.
No information was released about the suspects.
