President Donald Trump criticized six Democratic lawmakers on Thursday (November 20) for urging military personnel to defy unlawful orders. The lawmakers, all with military or intelligence backgrounds, appeared in a video encouraging service members to uphold their oaths to the Constitution by refusing illegal commands. The video, titled “Don’t Give Up The Ship,” features Senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, and Representatives Jason Crow, Maggie Goodlander, Chris Deluzio, and Chrissy Houlahan. They stated, “You can refuse illegal orders … you must refuse illegal orders,” emphasizing that threats to the Constitution are domestic as well as foreign.
The lawmakers did not specify which orders they deemed illegal. The video comes amid legal debates over military strikes on suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean and Pacific, which have raised concerns about their legality.
President Trump responded on Truth Social, labeling the lawmakers’ actions as “seditious behavior” and calling for their arrest and trial. He wrote, “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL.”
“This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The lawmakers defended their stance, highlighting past incidents where Trump allegedly pushed for military actions that could violate U.S. law. Representative Jason Crow, a former Army Ranger, cited Trump’s previous attempts to use federalized troops for domestic law enforcement as concerning.
