The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that DUI charges against Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old semi-truck driver from Yuba City, have been dropped following the results of toxicology tests.
Singh was initially arrested on October 21 after a crash on the 10 Freeway in Ontario, involving eight vehicles that resulted in three fatalities and two injuries. The crash occurred when Singh’s Freightliner semi-truck failed to stop for slowed traffic, leading to a chain-reaction collision.
The toxicology report confirmed that none of the substances tested were present in Singh’s blood at the time of the crash. Despite the absence of drugs, Singh still faces charges of grossly negligent vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing injury. According to FOX40 News, the crash resulted in the deaths of Clarence Nelson, 76, his wife Lisa Nelson, 69, and Jaime Flores Garcia. Two others, Juan Chavez Alvarez and Tamara Lynn Gay, were injured.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that Singh entered the United States in 2022 and applied for asylum. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer, requesting notification before Singh’s release from local custody. The amended complaint maintains the charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, reflecting the findings of the toxicology report, as noted by the East Bay Times.
