Hernandez’s 3-Run Homer Gives Dodgers Win in Division Series Opener

PHILADELPHIA — Teoscar Hernández crushed a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Dodgers rallied to beat the Phillies 5-3 in Game 1 of the National League Division Series. Hernández’s blast was his third of the 2025 postseason. It put Los Angeles ahead for good and gave him nine RBIs through three playoff games, the third-most in MLB history over that span.

Shohei Ohtani dazzled in his postseason pitching debut, striking out nine over six innings and becoming the first player ever to start both as a pitcher and a non-pitcher in a single postseason. The Dodgers’ bullpen, including starters Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki shut out Philadelphia over the final 7⅓ innings, with Sasaki earning his first Major League save.

The Phillies jumped ahead early with three runs in the second, but the Dodgers chipped away in the sixth before Hernández’s heroics sealed the comeback. Game 2 of the best-of-five series is set for Monday in Philadelphia, where the Dodgers will look to take a commanding lead.
