Inglewood Man Accused of Luring, Killing Victims via Dating Apps

Rockim Prowell, a 34-year-old man from Inglewood is facing serious charges for allegedly using a dating app to lure and murder two men and injure a third. Prosecutors have charged Prowell with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and additional charges of carjacking and burglary.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Prowell met his victims through an unnamed dating app. The first victim, Miguel Angel King, 51, was allegedly shot and killed by Prowell in July 2021 after meeting through the app. King’s remains were later found in the Angeles National Forest, and his vehicle was discovered miles from Prowell’s home with forensic evidence linking Prowell to the crime.

The second victim, Robert Gutierrez, 53, went missing in August 2023 after meeting Prowell. His body has not been found, but his car was located in Prowell’s garage, providing further evidence against him.

In February, Prowell allegedly attacked a third victim, a 40-year-old man, by binding him, stealing his wallet, and beating him with a baseball bat. The victim managed to escape but was pursued by Prowell in a vehicle, resulting in a broken leg.

Prowell’s criminal history includes probation for a series of burglaries committed between 2019 and 2021. During these burglaries, he reportedly wore a prosthetic mask to disguise his identity.

Prosecutors described Prowell’s actions as “predatory” and “inexplicable,” showing a complete disregard for human life. If convicted, Prowell faces the possibility of life in prison without parole or the death penalty. His arraignment has been delayed until October 16.
