A tragic shooting claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy late Saturday night at a gas station in Pico Rivera. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies responded to the incident around 11:45 p.m. at the 76 gas station located on Whittier Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found the teenager suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was reportedly waiting for a family member who works in the area when the shooting occurred. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has not released the name of the victim or any details about a suspect or motive. However, a gold Toyota Camry found at the scene is being used as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
This incident marks the second fatal shooting at a gas station in Pico Rivera within a week. Just days earlier, a man was shot and killed at a Shell gas station nearby. According to the ABC7 report, authorities have stated that the two shootings do not appear to be connected.
The community is reeling from the violence, and residents like Christine, who knows the victim’s mother, expressed their grief and frustration. “We thought our city was improving but I guess not,” Christine said. “He was a little boy. What could he have done to them?”
As the investigation continues, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department urges anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
