Man’s Chihuahua Helps Save Him After He Fell Into An Icy Crevasse

A Chihuahua became a hero after helping rescuers find its owner who fell into a crevasse on the Fee Glacier in southern Switzerland. The unidentified man fell nearly 26 feet after breaking through a snow bridge on Friday (July 4). Fortunately, he had a walkie-talkie to call for help, but his exact location was unknown.

Rescue teams from Air Zermatt began searching for him, but the hole he fell into was barely visible. After about 30 minutes, they noticed the man’s Chihuahua pacing on a nearby rock. The dog’s presence led the team to the crevasse, allowing them to locate and rescue the man. The pair were then flown to a hospital in the town of Visp.

Bruno Kalbermatten, an Air Zermatt spokesman, emphasized the dog’s critical role, stating, “Imagine if the dog wasn’t there. I have no idea what would happen to this guy.” The company praised the Chihuahua as a “four-legged hero” for its life-saving actions.

The man is expected to recover, thanks to his canine companion’s quick thinking and bravery.
