Monrovia Bear Meets Tiny Dog in Home Break-In

In Monrovia, California, a small dog bravely confronted a black bear that broke into a home over the weekend. Surveillance footage from a house on Valley View Avenue captured the bear entering the home, where it was met by the barking dog. The bear, wearing a tracker on its neck, curiously sniffed the dog before continuing its exploration of the house.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the bear has been seen in the neighborhood before, entering other homes and even enjoying snacks like ice cream and pizza. Residents believe the bear, which was also seen roaming the area during the day, is the same one responsible for the break-in. Lilly Martinez, a local resident, mentioned, “We’ve seen this bear come by a couple of times.”

The bear’s adventures didn’t stop there. As reported by ABC7, the bear was spotted in various locations, including near a retirement home and a Wal-Mart, where it was seen snacking on trash and drinking from a sprinkler. The bear’s escapades ended when California Fish and Wildlife officials tranquilized and relocated it to the Angelus National Forest.

Wildlife officials remind residents in the area to secure their homes and use bear-proof garbage containers, especially as black bears search for food during this time of year. The bear’s tracking device indicates that it has been involved in similar incidents before, highlighting the importance of taking precautions to prevent future encounters.
