Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer is facing serious allegations in a civil trial that began on Monday. Former Senior Assistant District Attorney Tracy Miller claims Spitzer forced her out of her position after she tried to protect colleagues from sexual harassment by a supervisor with close ties to Spitzer. Miller also accuses Spitzer of misconduct in two high-profile capital murder cases.
According to the Orange County Register, Miller alleges that Spitzer created a hostile work environment and retaliated against her for defending lower-level female prosecutors. The harassment was reportedly carried out by Gary Logalbo, a supervisor who was once a close friend of Spitzer and served as best man at his wedding. Miller’s lawsuit claims that Spitzer attempted to protect Logalbo and discredit the victims.
Miller’s allegations extend to two capital murder cases. She claims Spitzer made racially charged comments while discussing the death penalty for Jamon Buggs, a Black man accused of killing a White couple in Newport Beach. Additionally, Miller accuses Spitzer of having improper contact with a man tied to the case against Aminadab Gaxiola Gonzalez, who is accused of killing four people at a real estate office in Orange. These actions could lead to defense attorneys seeking to dismiss the charges.
Spitzer has denied the allegations, describing them as politically motivated attacks from employees held over from a previous administration. He argues that these claims are attempts to embarrass him ahead of his re-election campaign.
The trial is expected to continue as both sides present their evidence and arguments. The outcome could have significant implications for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and its leadership.
