An 18-year-old was shot while allegedly trying to carjack a pair of United States Marshals outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s home last week.
The Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department said that the two marshals, who were assigned to protect the residences of U.S. Supreme Court justices, were sitting in their government-issued vehicle when a silver van pulled up alongside them around 1:15 a.m. last Friday (July 5).
The suspected carjacker, 18-year-old Kentrell Flowers, jumped out of the van and pointed a gun through the driver’s side door. One of the marshals opened fire, striking Flowers in the mouth.
The silver van fled the scene while the marshals provided aid to Flowers. They recovered a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson that was allegedly found in Flowers’ pocket. While there wasn’t a round in the chamber, the 13-round magazine was loaded with eight bullets.
The teen was taken to the hospital for treatment.
He was then arrested and charged with attempted carjacking and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon.
