Former Senator Jim Inhofe Has Died

Former U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, known for his staunch conservative views, has passed away at the age of 89. The news was announced by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday (July 9). Inhofe served in the Senate from 1994 until his retirement in 2023 and was a key figure in the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Inhofe’s family revealed that he passed away following a stroke over the July 4 holiday. He was surrounded by his wife Kay and his three surviving children, Molly, Jimmy, and Katy, at the time of his passing.

During his tenure, Inhofe was known for his opposition to climate science, famously bringing a snowball onto the Senate floor in 2015 as evidence against global warming. Despite his hardline approach to many policy matters, Inhofe was effective at selectively compromising with Democrats to get certain bills passed.

Inhofe’s political career spanned over 55 years, beginning in the state legislature, then serving as Tulsa mayor, and finally in the US House and Senate. His passing marks the end of a long and influential career in American politics.
