Video Shows Deputy Punching 14-Year-Old in Hesperia

A video showing a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy repeatedly punching a 14-year-old boy in the head during an arrest has sparked concern among residents. The incident occurred on Wednesday (April 9) around 4 p.m. in Hesperia, California, near Hesperia Junior High School.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s department, the deputy was investigating a report of a student allegedly bringing a gun to school. Upon arrival, the deputy attempted to speak with a group of individuals, but the 14-year-old walked away. When the deputy tried to detain him, the teen allegedly resisted, leading to a physical struggle.

In the video, the deputy is seen taking the boy to the ground and delivering multiple punches to his head and stomach while ordering him to put his hands behind his back. The teen is heard whimpering as onlookers express their disapproval. The deputy is later seen picking up a green-handled knife from the ground, though it is unclear who the knife belonged to, and no gun was found during the investigation.

The teen was arrested and booked at the Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center for resisting an officer. The incident has generated mixed reactions, with some emphasizing the importance of complying with law enforcement, while others are concerned about the use of force on a minor.

The Hesperia Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them. The case remains under investigation, and the deputy involved has not been identified.
