3 Killed In Mass Shooting Following High School Football Homecoming Game

A homecoming celebration in Lexington, Mississippi, turned tragic when gunfire erupted, leaving three people dead and eight others injured. The incident occurred early Saturday (October 19), following a football game at the Holmes County Consolidated School. According to Holmes County Sheriff Willie March, the shooting was preceded by a fight among some men at the celebration, though the cause of the dispute remains unknown. The gunfire caused panic among the 200 to 300 people present, leading to a chaotic scene.

“It was chaos, to tell you the truth,” March said. “The shooting just started, and people started running.”

The victims who died were aged 19 and 25. The injured were airlifted to local hospitals. Deputies are currently collecting ammunition at the scene to determine the number of weapons fired. Sheriff March noted that shootings by young men have been an intermittent problem in the county, often stemming from personal disagreements or “beefs.”

He expressed frustration at the senseless violence, stating, “It’s hard to see what they are fighting over. I don’t think they are fighting over turf or drugs,” March said. “These are young men walking around with weapons. I wish I had an answer.”
