3 American Women Found Dead At Beach Resort

Three American women died at a beach resort in Belize from potential drug overdoses after police found “alcohol and some gummies” in their room, the New York Post reports.

Kaoutar Naqqad, 23; Imane Mallah, 24; and Wafae El-Arar, 26, all from Revere, Massachusetts, were found dead inside a room at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort in San Pedro on Saturday (February 22) after housing staff made several attempts to contact them. Surveillance footage showed the women entering the hotel room the previous night but never exiting.

Hotel staff entered the room and found the women unresponsive. Police haven’t yet determined the cause of their deaths, however, first responders said the women were found with froth in their mouths, which would suggest a possible drug overdose.

A pathologist told police that the women’s deaths likely occurred about 20 hours before they were found.

“The police did a thorough search of the scene, along with the pathologists and scenes of crime. There was nothing of substance that could have been found other than alcohol and some gummies,” said Police Commissioner Chester Williams via Channel 5 Belize.

“We’re not saying at this time that the gummies caused death, but we’re looking at every possibility,” he added.

Police are investigating whether the gummies were purchased locally or brought into the country by the American women.

“We’re trying to do as best as we can, including to see where they may have gone on Thursday before they went home, what if anything they consumed. All these things we’re looking at,” Williams said via Channel 5 Belize.
