A 32-year-old driver was arrested after the police found a dead body in the backseat of a crashed car. The Olmstead County Sheriff’s Office said that Margot Lewis was driving on Interstate 90 near exit 42 in Olmstead County, Minnesota, on Saturday (June 22) morning when she crashed.
When officers arrived, they found Lewis out of the car and being tended to by a passerby who stopped to check on her. During the investigation, they found a deceased body in the backseat of the vehicle.
“The condition of the deceased was suspicious, and it was immediately apparent that the death was not a result of the motor vehicle accident,” the Olmstead County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Liara Tsai. Her body was wrapped in a blood-stained bed sheet, blanket, futon-style mattress, and a tarp. It is unclear how she died.
Officials said that Tsai was the owner of the car.
Lewis was taken to the hospital for treatment and then booked on charges of interference with a dead body.
Authorities have not said if Lewis is suspected of killing Tsai.
