Actor Danny Trejo was involved in a fight at an Independence Day parade in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles after a water balloon was thrown at his vintage convertible, TMZ reports.
Video footage from the parade shows Trejo, 80, getting out of his car and attempting to confront who he perceived as the thrower while being held back as several people pleaded with the individuals involved to stop the brawl because children were present. The actor threw a punched, but missed and was pushed to the pavement, though later confirmed he wasn’t injured during the altercation while speaking to on Thursday (July 4).
The melee ensued for about 30 seconds before being broken up by parade attendees. No arrests were made in relation to the incident.
Trejo referred to the water balloon incident that resulted in the brawl as “childish” and called the people who threw them “cowards.” The individuals who threw the balloons were reported to be around 30 years old, according to TMZ.
The incident took place days after Trejo announced the death of his beloved 16-year-old chihuahua, Dixie, on his social media accounts. Trejo, who has spoken publicly his past drug addiction and incarceration in San Quentin State Prison prior to his acting career, has appeared in more than 400 movies and television shows including Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn and Runaway Train, his first acting role.
