LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Actress Viola Davis will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at next year’s Golden Globes, organizers announced Wednesday.
Davis earned her first Golden Globe award in the supporting actress category for her role in the 2016 film “Fences,” opposite Denzel Washington.
“Viola Davis is a luminary whose profound talent has continuously shifted the lens through which we see and understand film,” Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes, said in a statement. “Presenting her with the 2025 Cecil B. DeMille Award is not only an honor but a reflection of our admiration for her relentless dedication to her craft and her monumental impact on the industry.”
Hoehne added that Davis has demonstrated courage in portraying complex, powerful characters, breaking barriers and paving new paths.
Davis is an artist, activist, producer, philanthropist and New York Times best-selling author. She earned EGOT status through her Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and multi-Tony Award wins.
In 2012, Davis and her husband founded their production company, JuVee Productions.
She’s a graduate of The Julliard School, and she received an honorary doctorate during its 109th commencement ceremony.
Established in 1952 to celebrate its namesake filmmaker, the Cecil B. DeMille Award has recognized 69 legendary figures, including Walt Disney, Jack Warner, Sidney Poitier, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand and Oprah Winfrey.
Davis and the still-to-be-announced 2025 Carol Burnett Award winner will be celebrated at a gala dinner on Jan. 3 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Davis will also be honored during the 82nd Annual Golden Globes, which will broadcast Sunday, Jan. 5 on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced Monday, Dec. 9.
