U.S. Soldier Killed In Iraq Identified

The U.S. Army has identified the American soldier killed in a training-related incident in Iraq as 26-year-old Sergeant Devin Seibel from Robinson, Texas. The incident occurred on Sunday (May 31) at Erbil Airbase in northern Iraq. Seibel was part of the Air Ambulance Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado, and was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S. mission against ISIS.

The Pentagon has not provided specific details about the incident, which also claimed the life of 29-year-old British soldier Lance Corporal James Freeman. The British Ministry of Defence stated that Freeman died during a “tragic accident” while participating in routine military training as part of Operation Shader in Iraq.

The U.S. Department of War has confirmed that the incident is under investigation. The training exercise involved U.S. troops working alongside British Army partners. Air Force Times reports that the investigation aims to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragic event.

Seibel’s death has been met with condolences from military officials and community members in Robinson, Texas. The incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by service members deployed in support of international operations.
