President Donald Trump is calling for a quicker reduction in gas prices as the Fourth of July weekend approaches. While oil costs have been decreasing, Trump noted on Truth Social that gas prices are not falling swiftly enough. He warned gas companies against price gouging, stating that “big problems lie ahead” if prices remain high.
Trump highlighted the efforts of a Philadelphia-based gas station chain, the “Freedom Fuel Network,” which aims to lower gas prices at 25 locations in the area. He encouraged other retailers to follow suit, asserting that gas prices will return to the record lows seen before the conflict with Iran. The president emphasized that oil is now priced at $68 per barrel, urging retailers to adjust their prices accordingly.
The recent agreement between the U.S. and Iran to pause hostilities for 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz has contributed to the drop in oil prices. Despite this, gas prices have not decreased as expected. Trump insists that retailers must act quickly to lower prices for American consumers.
According to The Hill, the national average for gas in the U.S. reached $3.84 per gallon on Thursday (July 2). Trump remains optimistic that gas prices will decrease further, benefiting holiday travelers.
The Times of India reports that Trump is confident in his administration’s efforts to manage oil prices effectively, despite ongoing challenges.
