President Donald Trump and his administration unveiled the immigration “gold card,” which offers foreigners the chance to purchase U.S. visas for an expensive price at the White House on Wednesday (December 10).
Trump said the new gold card would function “somewhat like a green card” by allowing foreigners to become instantly eligible for permanent residency status to work in the U.S.
“Foreign nationals can sign up now and secure their places on the waiting list for the Trump Platinum Card. When launched, and upon receipt of a $15,000 DHS processing fee and $5 million contribution, they will have the ability to spend up to 270 days in the United States without being subject to U.S. taxes on non-U.S. income,” the Trump Gold Card website states.
Any gold card-carrying permanent resident will be able to apply for full U.S. citizenship five years removed from the purchase. The Department of Homeland Security will conduct background checks on all applicants to confirm whether they are qualified for the gold card.
“THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT’S TRUMP GOLD CARD IS HERE TODAY! A direct path to Citizenship for all qualified and vetted people,” Trump later wrote in a post shared on his Truth Social account, which included a link to the gold card website. “SO EXCITING! Our Great American Companies can finally keep their invaluable Talent. Live Site opens in 30 minutes!”
The gold card’s launch comes amid backlogging and difficulties from the EB-5 visa program that awarded permanent legal status to foreigners who invest up to $1 million in U.S. businesses, with an estimated 250,000 still waiting for their approvals for that program as of February 2025.
