Trump Picks 2 Familiar Names For Top Cabinet Positions: Report

President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly picked South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for top cabinet positions.

Trump is reportedly expected to announce Noem as his secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, two sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to CNN‘s Kaitlan Collins on Tuesday (November 12). Rubio is reportedly expected to be announced as Trump’s secretary of state, the New York Times initially reported on Monday (November 11), which would make him the first Latino to serve as a top diplomat.

Both Noem, 52, and Rubio, 53, have been longtime allies of the former president, having been named on the shortlist of top running mate contenders before Trump eventually decided on JD Vance. Noem fell out of contention after admitting in her book published in May that she shot and killed her 14-month old puppy Cricket decades prior because her “aggressive personality” made her “untrainable” to be a hunting dog.

“I can understand why some people are upset about a 20 year old story of Cricket, one of the working dogs at our ranch, in my upcoming book — No Going Back. The book is filled with many honest stories of my life, good and bad days, challenges, painful decisions, and lessons learned,” Noem wrote on her X account amid the backlash.

Rubio was reported to be Trump’s top choice for a running mate, however, was prohibited from being selected as the 12th amendment, which was adopted in 1803, restricts electoral college voters from casting ballots from president and vice presidents from the same home state.
