Tree Falls On Moving Train During Fatal Accident

One person died and six others were injured after a tree fell on a moving train in New Jersey Monday (October 14) morning, WPVI-TV reports.

The fatal accident took place in Mansfield Township on the New Jersey River Line Light Rail track at around 6:00 a.m. ET. The tree was reported to have fallen on the train, which was carrying 45 passengers, as it was moving across the tracks.

The train’s operator was suspected to be trapped inside when emergency crews were at the scene helping injured victims Monday morning. A large piece of a tree was seen under the front of the train in footage captured by WPVI-TV‘s Chopper 6 helicopter overhead.

New Jersey River Line suspended routes between Roebling and Bordentown traveling in both directions in response to the accident, NBC Philadelphia‘s Matt DeLucia reported Monday morning.

“TRAIN CRASH: 1 dead, 6 injured, 45 passengers on board this River Line train this morning. It crashed after part of a tree fell across the tracks. River Line suspended between Roebling & Bordentown,” DeLucia wrote on his X account, along with a photo from the scene of the accident.

No additional details were made available at the time of publication Monday morning.
