Suspect Shot on 405 in Westchester at End of LAPD Chase

WESTCHESTER (CNS) – A suspect was shot by police at the end of a chase on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Westchester Friday, prompting a full northbound closure that snarled traffic as the morning commute got under way.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery around 4:15 a.m. in the 5800 block of Manchester Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A chase ensued, with the suspect fleeing onto the northbound 405 Freeway.

The suspect stopped near Howard Hughes Parkway and that’s where the shooting happened, according to the California Highway Patrol, which was alerted to the situation and asked to divert all northbound vehicles.

A police spokesman declined to release details, including the suspect’s condition, until a public information officer arrived at the scene and gathered facts, but a broadcast report showed video of officers carefully approaching a downed person behind a dark-colored Kia.

The northbound 405 remained closed hours after the shooting, with traffic diverted at Howard Hughes Parkway, as the investigation continued.

The northbound back-up extended beyond the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway to Rosecrans Avenue, according to Caltrans.
