Search efforts are underway after a 66-year-old woman fell overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas cruise ship on Tuesday (October 22) night.
The ship was about 17 miles from Nassau when the woman fell off the boat around 9:40 p.m. The Royal Bahamas Defense Force began searching the area for the women and was joined by the United States Coast Guard, which dispatched an HC-144 airplane and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to aid in the search.
“Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort and is working with local authorities. We are also providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time. To respect the privacy of our guest’s family, we have no additional details to share,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson told TMZ.
According to NBC News, there were several hundred fans of Taylor Swift on the cruise ship. The group, called “In My Cruise Era,” was organized by travel agents Jessica Malerman, Nicole Rivera, and Shelby Reyes. During the cruise, there were Swift-themed events, including “Taylor Trivia” and “Nightly eras outfit themes.” Passengers were also invited to a welcome cocktail party and a Taylor Swift-themed karaoke night.
It is unknown if the woman who fell overboard was one of the “Swifties” or just a regular cruise passenger.
