Nick Reiner, son of the late Hollywood director Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner, is seeking access to a $1.5 million trust fund while awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his parents.
According to court documents obtained by Hello Magazine, the 32-year-old filed a petition on Monday requesting half of the trust money, which he claims was due when he turned 30.
Nick, who has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, argues that the trust’s terms are clear and non-discretionary, mandating distribution at ages 30 and 35. However, the trustee has withheld the funds, citing concerns over Nick’s ability to manage the trust. Nick intends to use the money to rehire defense attorney Alan Jackson, who withdrew from the case due to lack of funds.
Under California’s Slayer Statute, if Nick is convicted of “feloniously and intentionally” killing his parents, he would be barred from inheriting any estate benefits. Estate attorney Sean Weissbart, not involved in the case, explained to ABC7 that trustees are unlikely to release funds given the serious nature of the charges.
Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead from knife wounds on December 14, 2025. Nick was arrested the following day and remains in custody. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 15, 2026. If convicted, Nick faces life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty.
The legal battle over the trust fund highlights the complexities surrounding inheritance rights in cases of alleged parricide. While Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy, have expressed their grief over their parents’ deaths, they have not publicly supported Nick’s claim to the inheritance.
