An Alabama mother was arrested and her son was kicked off an MSC cruise ship after both were accused of slapping an elderly passenger while onboard, Local10 reports.
Kelli Lyn Ryan, 49, of Huntsville, was charged with battery on a person 65 or older. Surveillance footage showed Kelli Lyn and Dylan Ryan striking the victim during the October 6 incident, according to an arrest report.
Kelli Lyn reportedly slapped the elderly victim during a dispute that took place inside the ship’s theater at around 9:30 p.m., according to the Miami-Dade Police Department. Dylan was also reported to be shown striking the victim multiple times in the footage.
Dylan was removed from the cruise ship at the first port of call in Falmouth, Jamaica, for unspecified “excessive behavior” one day after the incident took place. Kelli Lyn was allowed to stay on the weeklong cruise, but arrested soon after disembarking the ship upon its return to Miami on October 12.
Additional details, including what led to the altercation taking place or whether the Ryans knew the victim prior to the cruise, were not immediately released by authorities. MSC Cruises hadn’t publicly released a statement about the incident at the time of publication Wednesday (October 16) morning.
